Application Criteria for the Swedish AI Landscape
The Swedish AI Landscape has a rigorous selection process. To ensure quality and impact, companies must meet the following criteria:
- Swedish Origin: Startups must be headquartered in Sweden, registered as limited companies, and established within the past 10 years.
- AI-Centric Offering: Companies must have a scalable, non-consultancy-based product or service with AI at its core.
- Team Requirements: Startups must have a minimum of two full-time employees, including at least one team member with AI expertise.

About the Organizations Behind the Landscape
AI Sweden is the country’s national center for applied artificial intelligence, established in 2019 as a joint initiative between the public and private sectors. AI Sweden accelerates the use of AI for the benefit of Sweden’s society, companies, and research community by providing shared infrastructure, datasets, and collaborative programs. The center brings together over 130 partners (including major corporations, universities, municipalities, and government agencies), making it one of the largest AI initiatives in Europe. AI Sweden plays a key role in positioning the country as a global leader in trustworthy and responsible AI development.
Ignite Sweden is a national innovation matchmaking program that connects startups with large organizations to accelerate commercial partnerships. Operated by RISE Research Institutes of Sweden and funded by Vinnova, Ignite Sweden has facilitated thousands of curated meetings between startups and potential enterprise customers since launching in 2017. The program is widely recognized for helping startups overcome the “first customer” barrier, one of the most critical growth challenges for early-stage companies.
RISE Research Institutes of Sweden is Sweden’s state-owned research institute and innovation partner, employing over 3,000 researchers and technicians across the country. RISE collaborates with industry, academia, and the public sector to drive sustainable growth through applied research and innovation. Their work spans a wide range of areas including AI, digitalization, energy, materials science, and bioeconomy.
