About the Net-Zero Data Public Utility (NZDPU)

The Net-Zero Data Public Utility (NZDPU) is a global initiative created to build an open, centralized platform for corporate climate and emissions data. Launched under the umbrella of the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero (GFANZ) — the world’s largest coalition of financial institutions committed to net-zero — the NZDPU was designed to solve a fundamental problem: the lack of freely accessible, standardized, and comparable GHG emissions data across companies and jurisdictions.

The NZDPU operates as a public good, collecting self-reported climate data from corporations worldwide and making it available at no cost to financial institutions, regulators, researchers, and other stakeholders. The utility’s data schema covers Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions, climate targets, and transition plans, structured to support the analytical needs of investors conducting portfolio alignment assessments and banks performing climate risk analysis.

NZDPU’s Corporate Focus Group brings together data providers, technology companies, and corporate reporters to improve the quality, coverage, and usability of the platform’s data. Members contribute expertise on data collection methodologies, verification approaches, and the practical challenges companies face when disclosing emissions. The group plays an advisory role in shaping the utility’s roadmap and ensuring that the platform evolves to meet the needs of both data producers and consumers in the net-zero transition.
